Meeting with a visionary

Attended
a seminar last nite at IPP Wealth Management. I would say it’s very
informative and refreshing. Basically, IPP is a wealth management
company which has been in operation since 1984. What makes it so
different are the missions and goals they have compared to other
insurance companies.

The company placed a significant focus on 3 areas, wealth, health and relationship
upon all their employees. Obviously it means making money with a good
health while having a strong relationship with your family and friends.
And the most impressive thing is that the organization is client
centric. Because wealth management must be done with the client’s needs
and affordability in mind and not of how much commission the advisor
will get in return. Well, it’s not up to me to judge, it for those ppl
who have financial advisor to judge for themselves. How would u feel
when you’ve placed your money and trust into someone who have promised
you that they will go together with you to take care of your wealth
then all of a sudden when some accident happens, you realised that the
person who you placed your money and more importantly your trust into
have left the business? And guess wat, your problem has only just
begun. I’ve seen ppl joining the financial advising industry with the
wrong purpose in mind. They go in for the money not because they wanna
serve ppl. I don’t blame those ppl coz money counts and it applies to
many ppl including me.

Anyway, I’m not here to share abt being a
financial advisor. It’s the meeting up with 1 of the directors that
really made the whole seminar memorable. I only know his name as
Patrick. It was his vision that really impressed me. He has a plan in
mind and he dared to put his plan into action. He input a very strong
culture of being physically healthy besides just making money. He
introduced a weekly exercising regime that involves all the employees.
And the best part? They happen even during office hours. Imagine your
boss saying this to everyone on wednesday @ 3pm, "Hey everyone, time to
pack up and hit the gym"

He also made sure that the people who
join the company are client centric instead of only making money and
leaving the business when you tink you’ve earned enuf. And by doing so,
his employees are really focused in what they are doing and they are
really enjoying doin what they are supposed to.

Well, how many
ppl out there like their jobs? Sure the passion will be there when you
just join the company. But as you get the wonderful and long awaited
pay rise and promotions, you get disillusioned and stressed out and
shagged out and you eventually want out or whatever outs that suit you.
Patrick believes not only having good employees who have the drive and
passion but also the importance of the company doing the pacing with
its employees.

The reality is that all organizations are working
for 1 thing, revenue. Because it’s the only element that keeps the
company afloat and help it progress. But it’s the pace of how you earn
it. Apparently, most companies want their employees to run like a
sprinter. Run at the fastest pace to overtake others and you’re safe to
reach the finish line. But the journey and growth of an organization is
not jus a sprint but it’s a marathon of long distance and you need the
people who can last from beginning to end not just take the lead at the
100m.

Patrick’s vision of an organization is not just the 100m
race but the 42km marathon. And he knows not everyone is born a
marathon runner that’s where the company wil become the pacer to help
its employees along the way. It’s a different management approach
compared to what alot of companies here in Singapore are doing. It’s
can’t b helped since everyone has been instilled with the mentailty of
"kiasu" since birth. So it’s very refreshing to hear and see that a
singaporean dared to execute this plan into a local company. Quite a
visionary I should say.
